About Us
Sierra Computers is a Reno based computer and network consulting firm. The company is owned and was founded by Darren McBride, a UNR graduate in electrical engineering. The company was started as "Sierra Computer Control" in 1982, and was originally engaged in computer hardware and software design. Mr. McBride spent 4 years doing much of the pioneer work in the field of English/Arabic computing for various Middle Eastern governments. In 1987, the company focused their business model on the resale of computer equipment and services in Northern Nevada. Since then, Sierra Computers Ltd. has achieved sales growth from 10% to 20% per year every single year. The company currently owns and occupies a 10,000 square foot facility at 1900 Vassar street and employs 25 people, most of whom are technical. The firm has eight Microsoft Certified Engineers (MCSE's) on staff, more than any other Northern Nevada computer company. Sierra Computers is a "Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider". Additionally, the company has substantial experience with Novell based networks and wide area networking products such as Cisco routers. Known by many in the area for their technical expertise and for outstanding service, Sierra Computers was awarded the Reno Chamber "Excellence in Commerce" in 1996. In addition, Mr. McBride was named "Outstanding Business person of the year" for Reno in 1997 by the U.S. Small Business Administration. In 2001 Sierra Computers bought the assets of MicroAge Reno, a long time competitor, combining the best of the two oldest and largest computer resellers in Northern Nevada. Sierra Computers is an authorized reseller of quality brands such as HP, Compaq, Cisco, Microsoft, Symantec, Viewsonic, 3com, linksys, SonicWall, D-link and many others. The company builds, sells, and services their own brand of industry standard architecture computers. In the last several years, the company has focused on two strategic market areas: computer network services and tapeless backup devices. Support programs include installation and troubleshooting, as well as the outsourcing of our staff for project roll outs or for ongoing PC and network maintenance. Our unique "part time" outsourcing programs known as NetCare and NetProtect allow smaller companies to use our highly trained staff on a regularly scheduled basis. We also do remote server monitoring, and proactive network maintenance to prevent our clients from having unexpected downtime. |
